Scene: The future. A hospital in 2010. An older Miho is holding a baby [Largo], while Junpei stands beside her, holding her hand.
A TV newscast in the background ist alking about asteroid headed towards Alaska, and the failure of the mission to stop itdue to a fanatical terrorist who believed it is God's divine punishment for mankind's evil ways.
Miho: "This is our son, Junpei."
Junpei: "He is quite beautiful."
Miho: "Sad that his life will be snuffed out so soon."
Junpei: "There may be a way to save him. I ... know someone. "
Miho: "What?!? How?"
Junpei: "There is a man whom I once defended for unlicensed mecha construction with intent to destroy Tokyo in the 3rd degree. He was a mad scientist, as always. As part of the evidence against him, an inventory of his lab was made. There were mutagenic chemicals, microatomic rays, powered armor suits with plasma cannons, but no mecha components. Also among the devices was a partial time machine. I don't know if it was ever completed. It is only a slight chance."
Miho: "But it's better than nothing."
Junpei: "Let us hurry!"
Miho and Junpei hurry to the garage, with their child in a baby carrier. They steal an ambulance, and hury to the mad scientist's residence.
Scene 2: The door to a dilapidated mansion. Miho is shouting at a white-haired man.
Miho: "But Dr. Wily! You MUST!"
Wily: "No can do. I'm a retired mad scientist. That lab is sealed, and shall remain so forever. I shall die here, in the present. As shall you three."
Miho: "That is... unacceptable."
Miho draws a knife, and stabs Wily, then shoves him into the hallway. "Let's go!"
A brief glance about the mansion reveals an unexpected complication.
Junpei: "He has ... remodeled."
Miho: "He said the lab was sealed!"
Junpei: "Yes, it was built to withstand much. I doubt he could have destroyed it had he wanted to."
Miho: "Can you find it?"
Junpei: "I AM a ninja. I shall find it. But it may take time."
Some time later:
Junpei: "It SHOULD be here!"
Miho: "But it ISN'T! 'Should be' is useless!"
Miho storms off.
(from a distance): "JUNPEI! THE KITCHEN! BRING THE BABY!"
Junpei runs into the kitchen. Miho is staring into the refrigerator.
Junpei: "What is it?"
Miho: "The refrigerator! Look!" She reaches in, and as her hand gets about half-way back, it disappears.
Junpei: "A teleporter entrance. I underestimated him."
The lab.
Miho: "This is it?"
Junpei: "Yes. But I had planned on the doctor's help. I don't know how to operate it."
Miho: "Step aside."
Miho pushes him out of the way, glances at the control panel briefly, then makes a rude grunt. "No destination lock. Not good. He never finished it. But it should still function."
She starts studying controls closer. Occasionally she looks at a dial, toggle, or gauge and mutters "Eye candy. No purpose" or manipulates one.
Junpei, with a puzzled look: "Huh?"
Miho turns, issues a charming grin, and says "I used to aid a mad scientist. I know how these things work." Serious again "Now hush so I can concentrate!"
Some time later:
Miho: "I'm energizing it now. You're going to 1975. The time machine's not in good shape, I don't know how long it will hold. Get ready!"
She presses a switch. What appeared to be a larger-than-life picture of Wily against the near wall burns away. The space between the frame glows golden, and a faint image can be seen. It seems to be of the earth, but the image rapidly changes, as if it were from a rocket-propelled fly buzzing around.
Junpei begins to pass the baby carrier through the portal. As it touches the portal, it is snatched out of Junpei's hands, and vanishes into the past.
Junpei, suprised, hesitates.
Miho stands at the panel, adjusting controls as it begins to spark. Over the noise that has just begun issuing from the vortex she shouts "The CHRONOREGULATOR JUST FAILED! GO! NOW!"
Junpei obligingly leaps through the vortex, as an arc leaps across the panel, throwing Miho back into a wall. The portal closes as Junpei passes through.
From the floor, Miho whispers "Find him, Junpei." and passes out.
1995, Japan. A well-dressed businessman appears in a darkened alley. With ninja speed, he removes himself from the scene. Over the next few days, Junpei hacks himself into various computer databases, establishing his existence in, and prior to, 1995 Tokyo.
He erolls in law school to brush up on current japanese law, so he can open his legal practice here. He also makes his presence known in the places one would seek a ninja.
He begins to place pressure discretely in select places, insuring that the asteroid will be discovered several years in advance so that it can be deflected.
He also searches for the baby, but cannot find him and assumes the worst.
1975, America.
A baby carrier materializes on an orphanage doorstep. It rocks into the door. A woman opens the door, and looks down.
She looks around, then picks up the baby carrier.
"Don't worry, we'll find you a good family, little one. You need a name. How about... Largo?"
Largo's adoptive parents never tell him he's adopted.
Dates are subject to modification.
1975 as a birth year would've made Largo 25 in 2000, when MT began.
This target is based on strip 2, which indicates he is reasonably expected to have graduated from college by now.
1995 means that Junpei hasn't aged much since 2010, and has had time to establish himself.
Note that future Junpei is the one seen in MT. Realtime Junpei is in ninja training in MT time.
2010 would make Miho, assuming she's 16 in MT time(which is pr'ly 2k1, assuming no major gaps in the timeline), about 25 at the time of Largo's birth.
...
2010 also provides a reference to the little-known NES title Street Fighter 2010. A gaming reference is perfect for Largo's birth, yes?
